Owner FAQ
Common questions from property owners about Trade Vacations
How much does it cost to list my property?
Property owners subscribe for $29/month or $249/year. This lets you list unlimited properties and post trade opportunities. Workers use the platform for free.
What kind of work can I post?
We support 9 categories: Painting, Carpentry, Plumbing, Electrical, Landscaping, Cleaning, Renovation, Maintenance, and General Handyman. Describe the task, estimated hours, and how many nights you're offering in return. Once a worker applies, the two of you communicate and come to a mutual agreement on scope and length of stay before the trade is matched.
How do I choose the right worker?
When workers apply, you can review their full profile — skills, experience, portfolio photos, references, and community ratings from past trades. You pick the best fit.
What if the work isn't done well?
Work happens during the stay, so you see the result first-hand before the trade closes out. If you're unsatisfied, you can flag the trade for review. The double-blind rating system and two-strike policy help maintain quality across the platform.
When does the worker stay at my property?
The work happens during the stay — same dates. A worker bringing family can knock out the project in a day or two and spend the rest of the time enjoying the beach; two workers splitting a larger job can double up. You and the worker agree on dates when accepting the application.
Can I list multiple properties?
Yes. Your subscription covers unlimited properties. Add as many vacation rentals as you'd like and post opportunities on any of them.
How many nights should I offer?
A reasonable rule of thumb: value your nightly rate at roughly $100/hour of skilled labor — so a 3-night stay (~$500 in rental value) lines up with about 5 hours of work. Owners aren't always realistic about how long a project actually takes, which is why the conversation between owner and worker before the match matters. Send photos and a clear description; if the worker says it's an 8-hour job rather than 4, the length of stay is revisited.
Do I need to provide tools and materials?
You can choose. Specify in the opportunity whether materials are provided and add notes about tools. Many owners provide materials while workers bring their own tools. For projects where the worker needs to source materials, prepaid cards left on-site (Home Depot, Visa) are a clean way to handle the buy-and-haul without requiring you to be there. Talk it through with the worker before the trade is matched.
Where are properties currently listed?
We're focused on the Virginia Beach and Outer Banks coastal region — including Nags Head, Kill Devil Hills, Kitty Hawk, Duck, Corolla, and Sandbridge. We plan to expand along the Eastern Seaboard.
Can I cancel my subscription?
Yes, you can cancel anytime from your dashboard billing page. Active trades will continue until completed, but no new opportunities can be posted after cancellation.
